Young Masters: Dialogues presents Contemporary works inspired by the Sphinx Fine Art Old Master Collection.  Each artist invited to participate in the exhibition has had the opportunity to explore the works in the Sphinx collection and either pair an existing piece of work with an Old Master, or make an entirely new work in response to a piece of their choice. This challenge has been taken up by artists including Yigal Ozeri, in response to Benedetto Luti’s ‘Portrait of a Young Girl’, by Ghislaine Howard, who has transcribed ‘The Sacrifice of Iphigenia’ by Giovanni Andrea Carlone and Shane Wolf who has made a partner piece to Ribera’s portrait of the ‘Philospher Thales’.

Other intriguing juxtapositions include Felicity Hammond’s work ‘Restore to Factory Settings’, a contemporary interpretation of the ruin, which echoes Brueghal’s depiction of The Tower of Babel; Isabelle van Zeijl’s photographic portrait of her son ‘Grand II’, which uncannily resembles Franz Hals’ portrait of an actor, whilst Rosie Emerson’s ‘Polaris’ partners Michele Tosini’s ‘An Allegory of Fortitude’.

Artists include: Amy Hughes, Annie Kevans, Bartholomew Beal, Charles Moxon, Charlotte Piper, Chris Antemann, Derrick Santini, Dijan Kahrimanovic, Durbin Lewis Ltd, Eleanor Watson, Elisabeth Caren, Elise Ansel, Emilie Taylor, Fabiano Parisi, Felicity Hammond, Ghislane Howard, Isabelle van Zeijl, Jam Sutton, Juergen Wolf, Lluís Barba, Matt Smith, Oliver Jones, Rebecca Fontaine-Wolf, Red Saunders, Richard Saja, Rosie Emerson, Shane Wolf, Tom Farthing and Yigal Ozeri.

Traversing genre, medium and time, this exhibition questions and celebrates the role of the past in contemporary art. With an international scope, this exhibition brings together works by artists from across the world and from a range of cultural backgrounds. Surveying a wide range of contemporary approaches to art history, through both associative pairings and direct dialogue with a particular work in the Sphinx Fine Art collection, intriguing connections and dialogues arise, creating a thought-provoking exhibition.
