Alastair Gordon has been featured in Times & Leisure magazine celebrating his forthcoming solo exhibition, Objects of Enchantment, at Wimbledon Museum (6 February – 29 March).
As the museum’s new artist-in-residence, Gordon has created a series of meticulously detailed paintings inspired by artefacts from Wimbledon Museum’s eclectic collection, spanning from the Roman period through to the suffragette movement and the Second World War. His work explores how objects shift in meaning when they are framed, catalogued, and placed on display, and how painting can offer another kind of “plinth”, elevating the everyday into something quietly extraordinary.
The exhibition will present 15 works, with several paintings shown alongside their corresponding artefacts in the museum’s collection.
