Margo Selby’s Moon Landing Featured by BBC News — Celebrating the Unsung Women Behind NASA’s Historic Mission

July 14, 2025
We’re delighted to share that gallery artist Margo Selby has been spotlighted by BBC News in their recent feature, “Unsung Women Behind Moon Landing Celebrated in Art.” The article highlights Margo’s monumental textile work Moon Landing, currently on view at Canterbury Cathedral as part of its 2025 summer exhibition programme.

First commissioned by Cynthia Corbett Gallery and unveiled at Collect Art Fair 2024, Moon Landing honours the little-known but vital contribution of women to NASA’s 1969 Apollo mission. At the heart of the installation lies a tribute to the anonymous women—many of whom were Navajo textile artists—who wove the heat shields and computing elements essential for the success of the moon landing.

Woven on a Jacquard loom and measuring an awe-inspiring 16 metres, Moon Landing merges tradition and innovation in true Selby style. The installation is accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful soundscape composed by Helen Caddick, amplifying the emotional and historic resonance of the piece.

Margo Selby’s work has long explored the intersection of craft, technology, and storytelling — and Moon Landing is no exception. It calls on us to rethink the narratives we tell about history and innovation, and to elevate the contributions of women whose stories are too often untold.
