Liane Lang Elected Royal Academician — A Landmark Moment for Young Masters Alumni

We are absolutely delighted to share the news that Liane Lang, alumna of the Young Masters Fourth Edition (2017), has been elected as a Royal Academician by the Royal Academy of Arts — one of the highest honours in the British art world. Liane is pictured here signing the historic vellum scroll and proudly wearing her newly awarded RA medal. a moment that marks not only a major personal milestone but also a testament to her powerful and consistent artistic practice over the years.

Founded in 1768 under the patronage of King George III, the Royal Academy is a proudly independent institution led by artists and architects. It limits its membership to just 100 Royal Academicians at any one time — all elected by their peers. This rare honour signals deep respect and recognition from across the contemporary creative community.

A Legacy of Excellence: Young Masters at the RA

Liane’s election is particularly meaningful for us at Young Masters, as it reflects the long-term impact and relevance of our platform. We aim to celebrate artists who engage with art history in innovative ways, and seeing our alumni recognised at the highest levels continues to be a source of immense pride.

This summer, no fewer than eight Young Masters alumni are featured in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2025, highlighting the breadth and depth of talent fostered by the programme:
  • Yinka Shonibare CBE RA – Guest Artist (2012)

  • Amy Hughes – Ceramics Prize Finalist (2014)

  • EVEWRIGHT – Shortlisted (2014)

  • Tom Farthing – Young Masters Dialogues (2014–15)

  • Michelle Heron – Autumn Exhibition (2022)

  • Nourine Hammad – Lerouge Knight Cross-Cultural Award (2023)

  • Liron Kroll – Shortlisted (2017, 2025)

  • Alexandra Baraitser – Joint Winner, People’s Choice Award (2025)

This growing list reflects the exceptional calibre of the artists we support and the critical recognition they continue to receive on national and international stages.

Looking Ahead

Our warmest congratulations to Liane and all the Young Masters alumni exhibiting this year at the RA. Their success affirms the importance of supporting emerging voices in art — especially those who push boundaries while remaining deeply engaged with the past.
