These paintings were born in the Highlands of Scotland and the mountains of the Lake District, England. I take my outdoor easel into the landscape and paint en plein air while hiking in the most wild areas of the British Isles. When I return to the studio, I make paintings of everything that happened in the wilderness, not only the landscape itself but the sketches, tape, wooden board, and even the residual marks and splashes. In this way, they are paintings of the wilderness yet also paintings about painting.
