Delayed Dreams is an examination of the life of an observer. All three woman have lived and worked in the UK and came to their art after pursuing various professional careers, hence delaying their dreams. Coming from Russia, Switzerland and Italy respectively these woman all know what it is to leave their native homes and start a new life. Tuning to the rhythm of a new city can be a lonely task. Making work in a new city even more so. However, looking at new surroundings with fresh eyes, the artists preoccupations become more apparent as their capture in they work a truthful depiction of who they are as artists and individuals. Nina Grushchwitz’sKINKY- KALINKI TRANSRUSSIAN EXPRESS is a 26 min debut documentary film about the underground art, music and club scenes which exist in the City of London. This documentary features London as a crucible of our times, a daily concoction of synergy and collision. Music and the arts are a universal language everyone understands whatever cultural, ethnic or religious background. London as a cultural mix seen through a foreigner’s eyes adds a new spicy perspective to the film. The combination of a certain naivety and supreme confidence makes this film quite human and disarming. Most of the film’s heroes are Russian born professionals, living and working in London. Their jobs and strong characters contributed to the understanding between nations as well as supporting the cultural scene and economy in London. Gruschwitz started her career as an artist in 1991 studying with acclaimed teacher and artist Margarita Budini in Germany. In 2000 she moved to London where she began her filmmaking work and currently is living and working in Norway. Nina Grushchwitz film was selected for the 14th Raindance Film Festival, October 2006 in London, the 2nd AARHUS Film Festival of Independent Arts, April 2007 in Aarhus, Denmark and the 3d Budapest Short Film Festival, August 2007 in Budapest, Hungary. Christina Benz, born 1972 in Zurich, studied Fine Art in London from 2000–2004 and completed a BA (Honours) at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts. The works of Christina Benz are visual statements on today's society. Captivating images with a strong sense of composition are juxtaposed against cryptic, sometimes absurd or ironic content. The work of Christina Benz has been selected for solo projects at several international art fairs including Arco 2005 and at Artisssima12 2005 her work numbered was nominated for the illy prize, Present Future, Turin. Her video installations have been exhibited in galleries in Zurich, London, Barcelona and Brussels. Collections include Fundación Centro Ordóñez/Falcón de Fotografía of San Sebastian, The Vanmoerkerke Collection, Oostende, Belgium and WMG Limited, Photography Foundation London. Yvonne De Rosa was born in Naples where she earned a Degree Plus Distinction at Federico II University of Naples, Italy, and later a PG Cert. in photography at Central St. Martins College of Art, University of London. Contacts is a series of photographic works, which explore human interaction and communication. A pictorial journey, documenting, with total candour, people’s daily lives and the contact they experience with others. In this work, the artist endeavours to explore the fundaments of life such as faith, love and friendship. Each piece comprises a series of personal stories, which become interwoven through location and circumstance. The artist uses the contact sheet to frame them within a clear-cut, linear narrative, expanding and embellishing on the informal, content-driven aesthetic of the snapshot. De Rosa had her first solo exhibition - contacts- presented by corbettPROJECTS at the Blenheim Gallery in Notting Hill in September 2006 followed in January-March 2007 by a very successful two person show at trafalgar hotel, showcasing some of the work from contacts. Collections include The Vanmoerkerke Collection, The Sandor Family Collection of Chicago and Michael Nyman.
